While Columbus North went into Saturday’s Girls Cross-Country State Finals with a longshot hope of contending for a title, it would have taken a monumental effort to upset either one of the top two teams. The third-ranked Bull Dogs did what they could do, however, and finished third as a team. Carmel won with 52 points to 77 for Fort Wayne Carroll and 168 for Columbus North. Zionsville edged North Central 236-237 for fourth.
It’s safe to say the Class 3A No. 8 Columbus North girls soccer team has had one of its best seasons in the program’s history. Unfortunately for the Bull Dogs, their quest for a second state finals appearance in school history came up short as 3A No. 3 Guerin Catholic ended North’s season with a 2-1 loss in the Seymour Semistate on Saturday. The Bull Dogs finished the season 18-2-1.
