John W. Hinds Tradition in Excellence Scholarship

Former gymnasts and other alumni collaborated with the Bull Dog Alumni Association to begin the John W. Hinds Tradition of Excellence Fund – which awards a scholarship to a deserving Bull Dog graduating athlete, with a preference for a gymnast and/or a student intending to major in Education.  Mr. Hinds, former teacher and guidance counselor here, coached the Columbus/Columbus North High School Boys Gymnastics Teams to 13 state championships and 47 individual state champions in the 17 years of IHSAA competition!  He also served as an assistant coach for the Girls Gymnastics Team for 3 years. To honor Mr. Garber’s memory, his family & our Alumni Association have established a scholarship fund in his name. Mike, an ’86 graduate, had a wide variety of interests from cooking to traveling to political science and education issues.  This year we are awarding a $500 scholarship to a Columbus North senior who will continue his studies in culinary arts. Tyler Martin is our 2023 recipient.
