Larry E. Perkinson

arry E Perkinson graduated from CHS in 1971, then earned a B.S. in Education from Indiana State University in 1975 and a Masters degree from Indiana University in 1979. He taught in the Bartholomew County School Corporation for over 40 years and coached Wrestling for 30 years.
He served as the BCSC Student Assistance Coordinator, working with families and community organizations on substance abuse, mental health, personal needs and safety issues for 24 years. Larry graduated from the first Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy and played a pivotal role in developing safety plans for school and community crises.
Larry has received numerous awards for his educational, athletic, and community service including the prestigious William H Laws Human Rights award in 2017 and the Mindy Lewis Above & Beyond Diversity award in 2009. He was twice appointed an honorary deputy by the Columbus Police Department for law enforcement support. He received the Jack Cramer Ideals in Athletic Competition award from the Columbus Parks Dept in 1999 – and Columbus North Wrestling selects a Larry Perkinson Mental Attitude award winner each year.
He has been an author, speaker, Friends Church Minister, and Sand Creek Township Historian.
Larry often states that he believes that no school corporation and community has worked together better than BCSC and Columbus. Clearly his leadership and hard work have played a major role in establishing that excellent relationship.
