The Republic newspaper: North alumni dedicate new scholarship to beloved teacher

Columbus North High School alumni have founded a new scholarship honoring a beloved English teacher. The Webb Salmon Excellence in English Scholarship will be administered by the Bull Dog Alumni Association, officials said in a recent release. The scholarship is named for former teacher Ollie “Webb” Salmon, who died on Dec. 15, 2020, at the age of 95. Salmon taught at Columbus High School, now known as Columbus North, in the ’50s and ’60s and was chairman of the English department.

North’s Lang picked for All-American soccer game

Jenna Lang, Columbus North’s all-time leading scorer, has been selected to play in the High School All-American Game for girls soccer. Lang sustained a season-ending knee injury late in the regular season. She is hoping to be ready, but most likely will not be able to play in the All-American Game, which will be Dec. 11 at Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was the only girl from Indiana selected.
